Elementary (A1) level

Description

In this lesson students are introduced to (like + ing), they will understand how to express their feelings, hobbits and choices using stative verbs. In this session ss will do controlled practice for checking understanding. For the next step, they will have a guided practice based on reading for details, by the end of the lesson all learners will engage in (ss-ss) freer practice based on speaking using the TL.

Materials

Abc HO (New English File Unit 4B: pp.42/43)

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Like + v.ing (stative verbs) in the context of Shopping

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about Men and Women are Different in the context of Shopping
  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Shopping preferences in the context of Shopping

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask SS: Do men like shopping? - 1st slide: Mall of Arabia, Lead-in questions: What can you find in this place? SS probably say clothes, shops (elicit from ss), all vocab they use in daily lives.

Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of listening exercise includes TL, so the ss listen and choose.

(Ex.1)-Choose from the list and put (✓). - Do you like shopping? Choose what do you like to buy? -Do it alone/ then check your answers in pairs. I.C.Qs: Are you working together or alone? will you write anything or just put (✓)? demo with ss the first example. Ex. 1.c: Listen and match with pictures I.C.Qs: Are you matching or writing? Alone or together? Alone demo with the class the first example. (1-D) SS check their answers in pairs. -provide the ss with the answer key. Ex( 1.d): Listen and complete with a verb again I.C.Q: will you read or listen? will you choose or complete? Work alone then in pairs to check answers. answer key.

SS practices the main aim ( like + v.ing) (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ex. 2.a: complete the chart with one of the verbs. from ex 1.d: demo with the class first example. Ex. 2.c: review the form with ss, now write 3 sentences with like/don't like - love/hate. work alone, then check your answers in pairs. Demo with ss the first sentence.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • Reading a text for scanning

3 a) Read the text fast - complete with men or women. answer alone. I.C.Qs: are you reading fast or slow? fast do you answer alone or in pairs? alone - then check your answers in pairs. Demo the first example with them. - SS check their answers together. provide an answer key. 3 b) read word by word and underline one thing you think is true and other wrong. Are you reading fast or slwo? slow are you working alone or in pairs? pairs - check your answer together.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

T demo with one of the ss. Then, T divide ss into pairs they stand up take turns to ask eah other the same questions, they take turns to ask and answer each other.
