This is a grammar lesson. The intention is to provide Ss with opportunities to practice the Third Conditional grammar structure

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice using the third conditional.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice using the third conditional in a conversational setting

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask Ss to discuss the following questions: 1. Have you ever done something in the past and felt bad? 2. Have you ever not done something in the past and felt bad? Ss will discuss these questions in breakout rooms.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will share Text Work Google Form w/ Ss. Instructions: You have 2 minutes to read the conversation and answer the four questions. When you finish, share your answers with your partner in the private message. ICQ: How long do you have? What do you need to do when you finish? Do you need to answer number 4? After task is complete, T will go over answers with class

Analyisis (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will share Google Form w/ Ss Instructions: You have two minutes to read the sentences and answer the questions. When you are done share your answers with your partner in the private chat. ICQ: How long do you have? What do you need to do after you choose your answers? After Ss are finished, T will go over answers. T will share screen with pronunciation T will model the language and focus on stress. T will have Ss repeat. T will model the language and focus on contractions T will have Ss repeat

Productive Task (Controlled Practice (10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T will share link of Controlled Practice Google Form w/ Ss. Instructions: You have two minutes to answer the questions. Fill in the gap with the correct structure. When you are finished, share your answer with your partner through private chat. After Ss have completed the task, T will go over answers. T will have Ss read questions and share answers. If need be, T will assist with pronunciation.

Productive Task (Freer Practice) (8-10 minutes) • Give students freedom to practice and experiment with language using Third Conditionals

T will share final slide from Lesson Guide w/ Ss Instructions: You have ten minutes to discuss with your partners things that you've done that you regret. Make sure to use the pattern that we studied today. T will share examples with Ss Instructions: As you talk, I will be changing breakout room members. So, you'll be talking to new people all the time. ICQ: How long is this task? Are you going to talk with the same person the whole time?

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T will provide feedback on pronunciation, grammar correction, and content
