Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a checking into a hotel

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am going to show 3 pictures in a PowerPoint: one of a hotel, bed and breakfast and a local hotel, and ask them: What kind of place do you prefer to stay in when you go away? Why?

Content preparation (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

I would ask students to work a Google form where they put a cross on things that are important for them when they travel.

Language preparation (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

During class feedback, I would check the students’ understanding of the meaning of the target language (using Concept Checking Questions), elicit the form, as well as drill the pronunciation (chorally and individually, if necessary) to ensure the students know how to say the structures and any contractions. In my presentation is the part that says "Vocabulary"

Controlled practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity for students to practice their speaking skills

Get the students to practice speaking skills in a controlled exercise, I would like to have a role-play exercise in the breakout rooms. Where one student is going to be the receptionist and the other one is going to be the guest.

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To provide focus on content of what they produced and error correction

I would ask students to work with a partner and tell them some bad anecdotes or bad experiences they had at hotels.

DEC (3-6 minutes) • To correct errors heard in the speaking task

Congrat for good speaking and correct errors detected.
