Description

In this lesson plan students will learn how to write a short postcard while planning, drafting and writing.

Main Aims

  • To provide writing practice of a postcard in the context of describing a holiday

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of language used for informal letter writing in the context of holiday

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T to show a picture of a postcard and elicit from students, what this is for and what would they put/write on a postcard? T to brainstorm with students and introduce them to the topic and explain that today we will learn how to write a postcard using common written phrases. T to write down all the ideas Ss may have.

Useful Language (5-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T to go over MAF M- greetings, address closing, A - formal/informal F - show that many sentences are fixed expressions even for writing.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T to show a sample template and ask students to do a matching activity.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T to give students a great Sample and ask Students to pretend they were on holiday and they will write a postcard to their friend. Using the sample and adding a few details while sticking to using the formulaic language.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

In this stage the Ss will have the chance to be a teacher and give the their peers feedback using a feedback checklist. T to divide Ss into pairs and ask them to mark the work in BOR. T to monitor Ss and help giving feedback when the S is confused on how to correct something. T to give over all feedback and read one postcard for the whole class.
