Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of language used for liking and disliking

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation


Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Activity: The students will answer the question: Are there things you like that usually people don't? Instructions: T sends Ss into B/out rooms to discuss for 2 minutes. Time management: Asking the question (1min) Ss discuss (2mins) = Total 3mins

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Activity: Ss will click on a link that will take them to a G-Sheet in which they will find 6 different statements related to liking or disliking something. They will be asked to put them in the right order on a cline that will go from 'absolutely love' to 'absolutely hate'. Time management: Giving the instructions (1min) Individual task (3mins) Ss work in pairs (3min) OCFB (3mins) = Total 10mins

Language Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Activity: Elicit MFPA for the 6 concepts that we've been covering: 'to be into' 'to be interested in' 'to prefer' 'to not mind' 'to not be keen on' and 'cannot stand' Ss will be asked CCQs to check meaning understanding. Key Instructions: T asks: - Put the sentences in the order you think they should be? Are there any of these that might be neutral? CCQs: When you don’t mind something, does it mean you don’t like it? No. If I prefer staying at home, does it mean I don’t like going out at all? No. If I’m not keen on football, do I hate football? No. Time management: CCQs (2min) Form (4mins) Pronunciation (3mins) = Total 09-10 mins

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Activity: T will ask students to open a G-form to answer 5 exercises for CP. The T will move through the B/out Rooms to check how the students are doing and to help with questions. Key Instructions: T asks: - Open this G-form from the link sent through the chatbox. Here's an example of how to write your sentences? You'll have 5 minutes to complete this task individually, then you will have 2 mins to share your answers in pairs. ICQs: How long to complete the task? 6 mins How long to share? 2 mins Time management: Explain activity (2min) CP individually (6mins) Share (2mins) = Total 9 mins

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Activity: Conversations! The T will ask the students to chat about things they like and don't like. They cannot use the words: like, love or hate. Key Instructions: Now, you will have the chance to practice in pairs. You will tell each other things that you like or don't but, you cannot use the words: like, love, hate. Please ask follow-up questions and remember to answer with your best attitude. You'll have 5 minutes for this activity ICQs: How long to complete the task? 5 mins Time management: Explain activity (2min) FP in pairs (5mins) OCFB (1mins) = Total 8 mins

DEC (2-3 minutes) • Delayed Error Correction - to praise good use of TL and to address observed mistakes.

Ss will receive praise for good use of language and feedback on a few mistakes. The learners will be given a chance to reformulate sentences/words/phrases that would have said differently.
