Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to use adjectives with nouns, describing places and things, using matching adjectives with nouns questions, as well as underlining adjectives in sentences, along with correct word order. They will listen to remember and copy;practice describing things around them using adjectives/nouns formulas.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson ss will have been exposed to the concept of adjectives as well as practicing adjectives in the context of describing places and things, using matching & correct order questions.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice listening for remembering and copying.
  • To practice using the adjective/noun in a less controlled speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set context and grab ss attention

Focus ss attention on pictures in the ppt. that include typical Egyptian movies, foods, landmarks, clothes, etc. For example: What kind of movie is this? What's your favorite Egyptian food? Why?

Test #1 (3-5 minutes) • To check ss previous knowledge of the American culture.

Ss will try to answer a set of questions about American movies, foods, etc using given adj/nouns in the vocabulary section.

Teach target vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • To clarify vocabulary that ss found difficult in the previous task.

Will use ppt. and follow the ECDW concept with following vocabulary (Adj-Nn) phrases: fast food American Airlines White House Big Apple blue jeans Pretty Woman Display the AK for Test 1

Test #2 (5-8 minutes) • To check ss understanding of correct adj-noun order in TL, and whether they change with singular/plural nouns.

Ss will look back on Test #1 to check the correct order and then work on exercise 3. I will demonstrate this by checking the 1st two questions in Test #1. Ss will answer this exercise individually, then they will check in pairs. Display the AK

Less controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To check whether the ss improved their knowledge of the TL by identifying adj and correcting wrong word order in sentences.

Demonstrate the first two sentences with ss in open practice, then ss will work individually on exercise A3. Change pairs Ss check answers in pairs Providing feedback by displaying the AK on the ppt.

Listening Practice (5-7 minutes) • Remembering and copying.

Ss will listen to an audio file of six simple sentences and try to write them down while listening. Demonstrate with the ss by asking them to make up Adj-Nn phrases using surroudning classroom items. Ss listen to the audio and write down the sentences they hear. Ss check in pairs. Display the AK.
