Description

In this lesson, Students will be introduced to the form &meaning of "going to" for future plans then, Students will listen to a dialogue and try to find out what is the focus of the lesson of today.Then, they will have two practices in which they should complete some sentences with the positive and the negative form of "be going to". Next, students will practice making sentences for future plans using some specific verbs. Afterwards .Finally, Ss will be given the dialogue that they listened to at the beginning of the class &They should make their own dialogue based on the model that they have.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of planning in the future time with be going to and use it in context and ocassions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice using a dialogue in the context of Future plans (Occasions)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask the students what is special about next week& their plans for next month. Then ask them to listen to a dialogue.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ask the students to remember some of the sentences from the dialogue and write on the paper the ones that have "be going to" Ask them: 1. Do these sentences talk about present/Future/Past? 2. Do I plan to do this before or not? Give one example of affirmative, negative, wh questions+short answers. Draw the timeline and ask a student to mark where the actions will take. Write the form: be(am,are,is)+going to+base form Take an example from the dialogue: I'm going to buy some gifts. Drill it and substitute I with you, he, they. Then, buy with take and find,Then, gifts with cakes and books. Explain the meaning and the usage of be going to.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To get students to practice using the TL

Give an exercise to students. They will be using "be going to" to write sentences for the pictures . Do the first sentences with the whole class. Students do the exercise. Time limit: 3min Get students to write their answers. Give students another exercise that involves looking at people's schedule for next Saturday and filling the gaps with the correct answers. Students do the exercise. Time limit: 4min Students write their answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To get students to practice speaking fluency using the TL

Tell the students that they are going to get a verb and when they hear their verb they should say a sentence using " be going to"+ their verb. Demonstrate the activity. Give the verbs to students. Give 2 minutes to Ss to think about their sentences.

Rearranging sentences (8-8 minutes) • to get the students to practice the forms of the TL

Write words : To/with/week/going/family/next/is/her/she/be Next week she's going to be with her family. Ask the students: "what are you going to do?" Students try to rearrange the sentences. Divide the class into 3/4 groups depending on the attendance. Give them sentences to rearrange. Time limit: 6min.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • to get students to freely practice speaking fluency using the TL

Divide the Ss to pairs. Give to the students the dialogue that they listened to at the beginning of the session. Tell them to write their own dialogue using the model that they have about next week holiday. Students write their dialogue. Time limit: 5min Monitor closely and check if Ss need any help+ check if there are any repeated mistakes.(write them) Get some students to present their dialogue.
