Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of using Like + ing form in the context of talking about their hobbies, interests, and activities which they enjoy

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practice on using the " like+ing " form to talk about activities they enjoy, interests, and hobbies

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- The teacher shows the students pictures of the four seasons and ask them about their favorite season and what do they like doing in it. - Then gives them handout 1 the " favorite times " text to read - Students will answer " what's special about the third Monday in January and the third Friday in June?

Presentation (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- Students are asked to read a paragraph, find the activities in handout 2 and fill in the blanks - Then students will match the verbs and the faces - Teacher will elicit from them complete sentences using the target language

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form of the target language

- The teacher then start eliciting the target language from the students and writes what they say on the board - Then the teacher will clarify the rule briefly to make sure they understood - with some pictures, they will create sentences using the target language

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- using the same pictures, students are asked to work in pairs, ask and answer about each activity - Do you like reading? - Yes, I love it

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- The students will interview their partner using the five questions from the favorite times in 2

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- Students will use the handout 5 from stage 3 as a model and write a paragraph about their favorite activities and their interests
