Description

In this lesson, students will be given the opportunity to practice their speaking skills. The context will be the telling of, and reacting to, a story. The main components to this lesson are: Exclamation Statements / The 5 W's / Introductory and Ending Sentences

Procedure

Lead-in (5 minutes) • To let the students know what we are covering in this lesson / Monkey Story

Google Jamboard - To let the students know what we are covering in this lesson - Elements of telling and reacting to a story - Tell students about the time when my sister and I discovered a monkey in the pasture while we were on one of our adventures. OCFB - if needed

Content Preparation (8 minutes) • Consider what content the students need to be prepared for in the text - MFP

Google slides to cover MFP M = Exclamation Statement definition F = Exclamation Statement use P = Selected Exclamation Statement stress and emphasis OCFB

Language Preparation (10 minutes) • Prepare students with some formulaic language needed for the task

Play Audio 2:10 Google forms TP5 1 & 2 - To help define the 3 major aims TP5 1 - Defining the 5 W's - Who, What, Why, When, Where, How TP5 2 - Defining Exclamation Phrases Starting and Ending a story S-S Students work in pairs and each must come up with an original question using the 5 W's, 1 Exclamation Statement and either an opening or ending to a story. Ex: What were they doing there? That was crazy! One day I was... OCFB

Design a speaking task (15 minutes) • To provide students with the opportunity to use the selected language through the sharing of their own story

S - 3 min Individual work to make notes for personal stories S - S - 5 min Breakout rooms - Students prepare/share/discuss their stories in small groups Have each group select one for re-telling 7 min - Prompt students to tell their stories and also prompt the audience to ask questions about each story - use the 5 W's T - Moderate the discussion OCFB

Provide feedback and DEC (7 minutes) • To review content and language and to reformulate any confusing language for better clarity

Provide clarity for the 5 W's if needed - How do we ask questions about a story? Provide clarity on Exclamation Statements if needed - How do we emphasize our reaction to a story? Provide clarity on beginning and ending a story if needed - How do we start and end a story? Whiteboard - Write down any reactions or questions DEC
