In this lesson students learn about I wish, and If only in expressing regrets about 2020.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will share screen and show Ss a planner bought in February 2020 and share how she had so many plans for 2020 that were obviously canceled. T will ask "What are some plans you made for 2020? Is there anything you regret doing or buying?" 1-2 Ss respond

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T will screenshare and instruct Ss on how to answer. Ss will answer individually (4-5 min) Ss will check answers in groups in breakout rooms (3 min) T will conduct OCFB (2 min)

Teach (9-12 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T will use Jamboard again to present and highlight certain concepts for review and clarification. Meaning: using Jamboard page 4, T will elicit from Ss, what is the meaning of the phrases from questions 5 and 6 of Test 1? (what is each sentence expressing) Page 5: T will clarify difference between wish and regret by asking CCQ: In the timeline, what do regrets refer to? Things in the past, present, or future? What do wishes refer to: past, present or future? With regrets is it something in the past that is finished, that you can't change? or something ongoing? (3 min) Form page 6: T will clarify Form and elicit form from Ss. T will elicit from Ss which verb form is the sentences in? past perfect CCQ: What does past perfect refer to? past events that have already happened/ended (3 min) Pronunciation: T will model different word stress and ask Ss what kind of feeling do you think I have? (3 min)

Test #2 (10-12 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

T will screenshare and instruct Ss on how to answer second Test. Ss will answer individually (4-5 min) T will screenshare Peer Feedback sheet and Ss will check answers in groups in breakout rooms (4 min) T will conduct OCFB (2 min)

Free practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

If there is time: T will share screen for Jamboard page 1 with different scenarios and give a demonstration on how to answer with partners. Ss will make sentences and express regrets about the scenarios in breakout rooms. (5min)
