Description

In this lesson, students will learn the days of the week. The lesson starts with a warmer activity to revise what students learnt last week. They will also practice listening for for specific information.

Procedure

Warmer -Game (4 truths and one lie) (10-15 minutes) • To revise what students learnt last week.

Teacher writes 5 sentences on the WB about herself: 1) My name's Aysegul. 2) I'm a teacher. 3) I'm from Adana 4) I have one brother and one sister. 5) My favourite colour is blue. Teacher asks the students to try and guess which one is a lie and then tell them the answer. Teacher asks three students (one by one) to come to the board and do the same and the other students will try to find which one is a lie.

Introduction to the Days of the Week (7-10 minutes) • To teach the students the days of the week.

Teacher elicits the days of the week starting with the question "What day is it today?". Teacher writes the days of the week on the board, numberin them. Then asks students to drill the days of the week paying special attention on contrasting 'Tuesday' with 'Thursday'.

Practice (10-15 minutes) • To make students practice TL in a meaningful context.

Teacher asks students to answer the questions on the 'Find Someone Who...' handout with clear instructions. Students stand up and mingle to fill in the questionnaire. If they find someone which the statement is true for, they write that person's name. Then they have to write a statement for each point on the handout such as 'Elif likes Monday". Then teacher cheks students answers through WC and then writes their sentences on the board.

Listening (10-15 minutes) • To make students practice TL and listening for specific information.

Teacher tells the student as today is blue (sad) Monday, they should finish the class with a song (Friday I'm in love-The Cure) to add some fun to the day. Teacher shows the students the handout that has the lyrics of the song. She asks the students to follow the lyrics when they listen to the song and there is something wrong with the lyrics, the days of the week are in wrong order and they should correct them when they listen. She demonstrates the instruction. In case of need teacher plays the song second time and then students do pair check.
