Abc Google jamboard
Abc Zoom session

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of third conditional in the context of regrets
  • To provide practice of third conditional in the context of several examples of possible regrets.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for third conditional in the context of regrets

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The class is on a virtual setting through a zoom session. Students will be asked what is their last concert or massive event. They will participate individually. This activity will help them set their minds on the idea of going to a concert, the expectation and excitement that ocurrs. And get them ready for the next activity.

Test #1 (10-11 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Students will have access to a google form where they will find a text talking about a concert experience. And they will also complete 3 sentences, guided by the text but in their own words or ideas. the sentences are the "if" clause, based on students knowledge, they will either follow the conditional structure or write whatever comes to their mind. They will be asked to work individually, then they will be teamed up to check answers and finally have a class feedback.

Teach (15-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

A jamboard screen will be shared for students to answer through elicitation. The statements are about the meaning of the 3rd conditional. Students will be asked to read each statement and answer if its correct or not. This will be done through individual participation, and the jamboard management will be done only by the teacher. For Form, students will have in the next jamboard slide an image of the complete structure of the 3rd conditional, along with some examples for them to visualize the structure. then they will be asked to do some fill in the blank examples using the proper structure. They will be asked to work in teams, and then share with the whole group. Finally, for the pronunciation, the sentences used as an example they will be mentioned to highlight the intonation. This will be done through model and drill.

Test #2 (10-12 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Students will be asked to fill out a google form where they will have linked sentences and they will have to re write them as 3rd conditional. They will be asked to work individually, then team up to check and compare their answers and finally share with the class.

Free practice (5-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

If time allows on the previous stages, students will be asked about any situation that may occur to them and they regret. They will be teamed up to discuss with their peers and at the end share with the whole class.
