Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan, detailed and deduction reading practice using a text about The Runaway in the context of Diary

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Discussion in the context of The Runaway

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The ss will be shown to some pictures about the reading topic and they will talk about it to each other to guess about what the reading is about. This will help them to involve more in class and help their speaking too.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Now, It's the time to watch a video about some reasons of giving up which can give us hope and some solutions. It lasts about 30 seconds. Then they will talk to each other about a video and describe their opinions in PW. After that I will teach them some blocking words by means of MPF to prepare them for the reading. This will take 3 or 4 minutes.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In this stage ss will answer to some gist Q to see how much ss are dealing with the topic and to measure their ideas with their answers. First they will think about the Q then, they will talk to each other and discuss about it after that some volunteers can share their ideas about the Q.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

After some gist Q it's the time to go through to the reading more than before with some detailed Q. First they will think about the Q then, they will talk to each other and discuss about it after that some volunteers can share their ideas about the Q.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In the last stage which I think is the most important stage ss will think about some general Q about the topic and the whole reading. This will help me to see what they've learned and how they can use them in their life and to see whether it was useful or not.
