Description

In this lesson, students learn about found the foundations of "Time telling" for analog and digital clocks. They will be given Open/Close pair practices on these approaches. They will be given demonstrations using videos and slideshows to make them clear and translucent with the structure.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To introduce and give practice in "Time-telling" concept structures through the context of talking about their personal routine.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of time (analog and digital clocks)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead in (8-10 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage students

T creates an eerie milieu in the classroom for an activity "Touch me- I am Zombie" where Ss will walk across the room in a circle. WC activity. T: 1. We are going to play a game "Touch me- I am Zombie". (Zombie meaning explanation) 2. You have to move round the yellow strips that you can see. 3. One of you will be the first zombie. 4. Can you please come forward? 5. You have to touch an other member in the group and he turns into a zombie. 6. He touches the other and it goes on. You have to save yourself not to be touched. 7. The last one is the winner. 8. I will show you a demo (Music on/Visuals on)

Presentation (9-10 minutes) • To epitomize the concept of time-telling by reasonable examples and diagrams

T explains the round clock concept with basic stress on minute hand/hour hand approach. T: So lets see how a clock works T: (Explains) T: Lets try some time on this blank clock. T: What's the time now? (Form 1/Form 2)

Practice Session#1 (Controlled Practice) (4-5 minutes) • To boost up confidence among learners in filling simple questions of "hour-hand time".

T will distribute handouts and ask to fill the correct time. PW activity. T: Fill the correct time as you can see here in the worksheet. T: Work with your partner. You have 1 minute. T: Learners FB by displaying answers in WB.

Practice Session#2 (Semi-controlled practice) (4-5 minutes) • To provide an extensive practice in "Time-telling concept" for minute hand/hour hand. (Gap filling)

T: That was simple right ! Now you need to fill this with both the forms (Form 1/Form 2). T: T distribute worksheets. T: You have exactly 2 minutes to fill it up. Can anyone tell me 2 minutes is equal to how many seconds? PW activity. Ss FB from each group divided.

Practice Session#3 (Semi-controlled practice) (4-5 minutes) • To furnish the conception of learners by problems on matching columns

T explains Ss to match the correct time displayed with the written time. T: Now as you can see, here are some pictures of clocks with times T: Below are the times given. T: First is the form 1 and second one is the form 2 T: You need to write the correct time for the displayed image. T explains the example done for the students in the worksheet. Individual work. Monitoring. Lets see the answers.

Practice Session#4 (Free practice) (3-5 minutes) • To get a final touch on the concepts of minute hand/hour hand for "time-telling"

T displays a round clock without hands and draws hour hand/minute hand. T: Now in groups discuss the time and come over here and write it down (Form 1/Form 2) T appreciates the Ss.

"I HAVE...WHO HAS..." Activity (4-5 minutes) • To cultivate speaking skills of learners and build up confidence in telling time.

T: I have cards in my hand. In these cards you can see "I have" at the top and "Who has" at the bottom. You need to come here and read aloud: I have: "the time" Who has: "the written time". T shows a demo. WC activity
