Description

In this lesson students learn about adverbs of manner through an intensive reading task. The lesson will begin with the students discussing what they would do if a stranger sat next to them on a train, followed by the MFP. Thereafter the students will have a controlled practice in form of a checkbox exercise. This will be concluded by a freer practice where the students will be speaking via breakout rooms.

  • To provide practise of adverbs of manner in the context of daily life giving students an opportunity to make connection between classroom learning and the real world.

Procedure

Lead-in (10-15 minutes) • To introduce practice of adverbs of manner

T will use google jamboard to share questions for the students to discuss in breakout rooms. (2mins) Students will then have an intensive reading task and will answer questions on google forms. (3 mins) Student will then check the answers together in open class feedback. (1 min)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • Cover meaning, form and pronunciation

Teacher will use google slides to clarify meaning, form and pronunciation. Meaning- by using CCQs to elicit meaning from students. Form- asking students how an adjective is modified to form an adverb for example what do you add to an adjective to form an adverb Pronunciation- model the phrases for the students and have them repeat it individually and as a group.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide controlled practice of the TL.

Teacher will share a Google form exercise for students to practice use of the TL. (4mins) Students will do this individuall and once completed, check answers in pairs via private messaging (2 mins) Students to teacher (Open Class Feedback) (2mins)

Freer Practice (5-10 minutes) • To allow students to communicate freely using the TL.

The teacher will model sentences using adverbs of manner using past simple and past progressive. Send students to breakout rooms in pairs and have them come up with one or two sentences using adverbs of manner in past simple or past progressive . (3 mins) Conduct Feedback and DEC. (2 mins)
