Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the past simple and past continues tense in the context of meeting.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice reading in the context of the first meeting.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

_After greeting the students ask them "Do you remember the first time you saw me? _What was the first impression when you saw me ? _Discuss with your partner about the first impression about your (life partner ,wife ,friend or colleague)

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

-This is a short story about the first meeting for Andy and his girlfriend . -Ask the Ss to skim it and answer this question. (How did he start talking to his girl friend ?) -Give them 3 minutes . -Work individually. -Check in pairs . - Feedback.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To highlight the target language in context.

_Ask them to skim the story and highlight the sentences in past simple and past continues tense . _Give them two minutes. _Check in pairs. _Feedback

Language clarification (6-8 minutes) • To provide clarification of the meaning form and pronunciation of the target language.

_Write the marker sentence on the board . (I met my girl friend while I was working. ) _Ask CCQS to elicit the meaning from the students. _We have two actions in this sentence .What's the first one?To elicit past simple CCQS: Is the action finished?yes Is it still related to the present?No Is it a near past or a far past? _What's the second action ?To elicit past continues . CCQS: Was the action in progress? Yes Was the action interrupted?Yes Did he start working before he met her? Yes _Which action is longer?To elicit (past continues ) _What did the short action do? Interrupted Use the time line to clarify the meaning. _How can we form a question from this sentence? Clean the board and drill the pronunciation .

Controlled practice (12-14 minutes) • To check the students understanding of the target language and prepare them for the freer
