Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

* Tell Ss that they will read a text about a part of the English Culture. Instruct Ss to that they have 3 minutes to read and answer the question -Are English people cold or private? *Get Ss to do True / False activity (3minutes). Check answers as a class (WCFB)

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

* Write the elicited TL (from T/F activity) on the board. - They break an uncomfortable silence by talking about the weather. -Disregarding could cause offence and stop a conversation. -English people avoid talking about money. *Identify the Parts of Speech by eliciting. Highlight the TL using different colours. Once completed, elicit from Ss -ing definition. (gerund)

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: (T-S) *Check the meaning of the TL by using CCQ. -Talking to strangers (Is this the 'verb' of the sentence?) (Am I talking to a stranger now?) (Is this 'verb' in action?) Repeat similar questions to the rest of the sentences. Ss should identify that gerunds are nouns that look like verbs. Form: (T-S) Highlight the sentences to show the following sentences. *After prepositions *As the subject of the sentence *After certain verbs Pronunciation: *Drill pronunciation by getting the Ss to repeat the sentences. (T-S)

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

* Ask Ss to put the carton strip sentences from the text into the correct category rule. Stick the sentences on the board (GW) *Check answers on the board. Highlight the TL if necessary (WCFB) * Further check meaning by asking CCQ about the specific sentences. (Do English people spend years without speaking to strangers? Yes) (Are they physically talking at the moment? No) (Is speaking the action of the sentence? No)

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
