Elementary level


In this lesson the students will learn about how to ask and how to answer the questions of prices.T starts the lesson by asking the Ss where they go in their free time.Then Ss will work through an exercise about ads and then they complete it.Get Ss in pairs to practice the dialogue repeatedly. The Ss will also learn how to pronounce different currencies .

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for asking and answering in the context of prices and times

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of prices and times
  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about advertisements in the context of prices and times


Warming-up (8-10 minutes) • Involve the students in the topic.

I will write on the board "Where do you go in your free time?" T ask the Ss to write down what they do in their free time in a group of three .So I will elicit many answers from them . Then I will stick three pictures on the wall for a cinema , a concert , an exhibition.The students will interact with me talking about those three things and then I will stick the names of them beside on the WB.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • Getting the Ss to come closer to the topic of the lesson

T shows the Ss one of the pages from a Turkish newspaper full of ads and ask them what is it, to elicit the word" ad" from them . So I will write on the WB (ad=advertisement=advert) .Then I will distribute among them (handout 2). T tells the Ss in pairs to scan reading the ads and try to guess those ads are about what.While they are guessing the names , I will stick on the board the three ads.When they finish I will stick the names for the ads on them.T asks the students to work in pairs to get more information from the ads.Then T gets the FB about details.

Listening Activity (5-6 minutes) • To check the students' awareness of times

T tells the Ss that they will listen to a recording and T distributes among the Ss (Handout 3) to fill in the gaps while listening to the recording.T plays the recording and makes his FB to check if the Ss are in need to listen again or not.Then the Ss check the answers with each other.Then drill the times on the board.

Semi-controlled practice (6-8 minutes) • Getting the students' ears to be familiar with different prices.

T sticks on the WB some money symbols ($ /€ / £ / c / p).T elicits from the students their names by working in pairs.Then the T will ask one of the Ss to come to the board to try to stick those names beside each correct symbol.After that the Ss will listen to a recording about prices to check their answers.

Free-controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To make the students familiar with use of asking and answering prices in their real life

The Ss will work in pairs to match a conversation between two persons.Get Ss to try to fill in the gaps in the dialogue of ( handout 5).The Ss will start alone then they will work in pairs to complete it.T will take the feedback by moving among the Ss to check if they are doing the task correctly or not.Then the Ss will be kindly asked to practice the dialogue with each other in front of the WC.At the end the T shows the students "asking about prices" on the WB.Then they practice another conversation about prices (Handout 6).
