Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide students functional language to give and ask for directions.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To prepare learners for real-life communication (in the target language) about finding places on a map.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show a slide in which some useful reference graphics , and ask Ss to write their meaning. In the CHATBOX individually. T will give 2 minutes and compare in OCFB.

Exposure (5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T- will shows a map with different restaurants where they can eat. T- will assign each student an invitation to go to eat at a different restaurant located on the map, and they will have to say which direction they will take walking to get on time to their destination from the bus stop. T-set the time for 3 minutes and OCFB 2 more minutes

Highlighting (7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Text work T- will give Ss a text with the TL Ss- Have to read the Text in 2 minutes and identify the Functional Language to ask and give directions. T- will set the time for 2 min and ask Ss to write the correct letter in each column. Ss -teacher will ask ss to compare answers in pair in private messages. (2 minutes) before OCBF for 1 minute.

Clarification (12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T- will analize the the next Functional Language expressions to ask and give directions: 1.- “Excuse me. Where is the Subway station? 2.- How do I get to Central Park Mall on the Subway? 3.- Ok. And then? 4.-Go straight on at the (Traffic light / at the corner and turn left) 5.-Go along the road until you find a Book Store 6.-Take the first Street on your left Using for meaning:CCQ= Which part of this expressions can change? Which part is FIXED? Which one is FORMAL? Which one is INFORMAL? - Entonation for pornunciation. - Which is the meaning of each expression.

Controlled Practice (8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T- will provide controlld practice of the language. Ss-The students must identify the wrong word of the expressions and choose the correct one from the BOX. Ss- will do this individually and then check in pairs.

Free Practice (6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T- set the time for 4 minutes in BOR T. will divide students into pairs (A and B) and put them in BOR. S- will have a different MAP. They will have to draw attention to the name of the places in the box and review how to ask for and give directions. T- will tell Ss. That they are going to give directions starting at the pin located at the bottom of the map. Ss. A goes first and asks Ss B for directions to the places Shown on their MAP in order to shown. Ss. B then gives directions from place to place. T- call to OCFB at the end of minutes.
