Description

In this lesson, Ss will learn how to write a narrative paragraph of a folktale by using time words ( when and while) and how to write events in the past simple.

Materials

Procedure

Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greet the students and make them feel welcome. - T good morning everybody, remind them of having a piece of paper aand a pen with them and the lecture is recorded. T show a picture to generate interest and get students talking. You could involve some extra visuals here to set the scene. After Ss have discussed, get quick feedback. - T asks Ss to look at the picture and tell what you can see. T asks: what is the man doing? why is he sitting in the middle? what are the kids doing? Is he telling them stories? Do you know someone in your family who used to tell you stories when you were a kid? Do you remember any of these stories which were told by your grandfather/grandmother? - T tells Ss to read a Saudi folktale and discuss it. - Explaining the meaning of the word folktale. - T asks Ss to tell some traditional folktale.

Exposure (15-20 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T asks Ss to read a folktale which took place in Saxony, Germany. - Now I would like you to read a short folktale, this folktale took place in Saxony, Germany many years ago. You got 3 minutes to read it, read it silently. - now all of you close your eyes do not look at the text and tell me what was the story about ? (3mins) T asks Ss to find words in the story that mean: - Plz read the story again and find words in the story which have the same meaning of the following words: T asks Ss to put a circle around every past simple verb in the story T please read the story again and while you are reading put a circle arout past simple verbs. T demonstrate Ss follow suit.

Useful Language (10-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T presents sentences with when and while and ask Ss to tell the number of events in the sentences and how they are being linked together? - T read these sentence and tell me how many action are they in this sentence? - T asks Ss to identify the time tense. Ss answer T gives feedback - T asks students to give personalized sentences with when and while.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T asks students to write a folktale and encourage them to use the following: 1. narrative prose 2. past simple 3. while and when to connect two events.

Feedback and Error Correction (10-15 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T asks Ss to share their paragraphs in the chat box T reads and provides feedback. - T I would like you to share your paragraphs, all of you please share your paragraphs.
