Invitation and suggestion for going out

Description

In this lesson, students learn how to use and speak out about invitations and suggestions for going out - functional language. The lesson starts with leading students to topic by getting them to talk.This is followed by a recording where students listen and answer CCQs. As the third stage, TL will be clarified and finally, there is some controlled practice via final pair work and whole class speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking out the functional language

Procedure

Lead - in (3-5 minutes) • To set the context and engage students about functional language

- Ss are given handouts - Ss are assigned to talk in pairs and discuss following questions: - which famous person would you like to spend evening with? why? - where would you like to go? - what would you like to do during the evening? - ICQ: clear instruction is needed - Let them talk in pairs and then ask them what the others said - Monitoring should be run and do some corrections while they are speaking - Feedback: students will share their ideas

Exposure (5-10 minutes) • To provide context for the functional language

- Ss will be assigned to listen and audio to expose them to TL - They should listen carefully - ICQ -CCQs: - was it conversation between 3 persons? ( No) - Do they know each other? ( No) - Why are they calling? - Could he join them on Saturday? ( No) - Are they going to meet in cafe? ( Yes) - Are they supposed to meet at half pas one? (Yes) - Was it an invitation? (Yes) - Did they suggest each other somehow? (Yes) - Did they talk about going out? (Yes) - Let it play again if its needed - Let them in pairs talk about what they have heard - Feedback: then let them say what the topic is and ask them to share with class

Clarification (5-10 minutes) • To clarify the functional language (( invitation, suggestionn and its reponses)) and do MFP

- Ss are asked to produce some functional language based on what they have learned in last task. - You might refresh their mind or elicit by them. - Teacher will write one or couple of examples and its responses - Example must be written on board and - MFP in terms of meaning, pronunciation and form will be run. - Feedback: ask to model the language by using functional language

Practice 1 (3-6 minutes) • To draw students attention to functional language through recording

- Teacher will distribute listening HOs - Ss will listen the recording carefully and ready too answer the task - ICQ - Monitoring - Peer checking - Feedback: Students answer the task by turn

Practice 2 (4-6 minutes) • To check level of learners undersstanding about main aim

- Teacher distributes HOs - Ss are assigned to do task 4.d.2 - Clear instruction is absolutely essential - Monitoring - Peer checking - Feedback: lets students share their answers with class

Feedback (6-8 minutes) • To give students opportunity to personalise and discuss through a speaking activity

- Ss will be given an example of conversation using functional language - Ss will personalize the given conversation and get them talk in pairs - Get them in pairs to speak out - Monitor and do some delayed corrections - Ask groups to share with class - model the language
