Description

In this lesson the students will be practicing for their reading skills. There will be pre-taching, while-teaching and post-reading tasks for an accurate reading.

Materials

Abc Canva slides, the teacher made
Abc Pictures (Google Pictures)
Abc Textbook: Latham-Koenig C, Oxenden C, Lambert J, English File- Pre-intermediate SB

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about three famous people's educational life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in the students' teachers' thought about themselves.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T greets Ss. -T shows 3 photos for 3 famous people and asks some questions about them. -T sends the Ss into the breakout rooms to answer the questions. -In the main room, T gets some feedback from the Ss. -T provides feedback as needed.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T teaches some possible unknown words to Ss (coincidence, bully, pupil, arrogant, housemaster) by eliciting the words, showing a picture and asking a CCQ. -T does drilling for the words, highlight the stress. -T provides feedback as needed.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-T gives some information from the texts Ss. -Ss find the person related to the information by working in pairs in the breakout rooms. -In the main room, T shows the answers. -T provides feedback as needed.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-T asks a question to Ss When were you at school, what do you think your teachers thought of you? -T answers the question as a model for the Ss. -T sends the Ss into the breakout rooms to discuss about the question. -T gets some feedback from the Ss. -T provides feedback as needed.
