Description

In this lesson students will have the opportunity to practice their speaking through real life situations such as life changes during the lockdown.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of life in lockdown
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of with the adequate vocabulary to ask questions about the lockdown life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of on the type of questions to be asked in the discussion about in the context of life before/during/after lockdown

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The class setting is through a zoom session. Students will be told about life before the lockdown, and be asked through a google slide, what activity do they enjoy doing (thinking in life before the lockdown, to focus on no matter what they like, they could do). The Ss will share directly with the whole class.

Content Preparation (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through speaking

Ss will be asked to discuss about their life before lockdown. think about at least two things each (different from one another) that they used to do before the lockdown. They will be set up in teams and then have them share their ideas with the whole class.

Language preparation (4-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss will be asked to brainstorm expressions to express their opinion and share their ideas. They will be set up in teams and then they will be asked to share their thoughts with the whole class.

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

On the first part of the task, Ss will be asked to discuss significant changes (at least two different ones per student) their life has had since the lockdown started. How did it impact their lives. Students will be working in teams and then share with the whole class. On the second part of the task, Ss will be asked to discuss what they think would be an addequate change post lockdown. (at least two different ones per student). Taking into consideration that life as we knoe it may not be the same post lockdown. Students will be working in teams and then share with the whole class.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Feedback and error correction will, as possible, be done after each stage. This stage will be reserved in case there needs to be more feed back and error correction to be done.
