Description

In this lesson, student will practice speaking about television, television shows, and ways to describe television shows and what they like about them using various adjectives.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of television shows

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of television shows

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will ask the students to talk about how often they watch tv/television, and if they watch tv shows or movies more often.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Teacher will present the adjectives to the class and ask CCQs to clarify MFPA with the students.

Useful Language (2-3 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students will be asked to complete a quick task there they select the correct adjective for each sentence.

Open Class Feedback (2-3 minutes) • To allow teacher to check understanding & students to share feedback on task

Teacher will elicit answers from the students regarding the target language task. Students will share answers with the class, so teacher may correct together.

Productive Task(s) (4-6 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will be grouped in break out rooms to discuss a television show they're watching using suggested adjectives. Students will be asked to try and convince the other person to watch the show.

Open Class Feedback (2-3 minutes) • To allow teacher to check understanding & students to share feedback on task

Teacher will close breakout rooms and elicit answers from students about the tv shows they are watching and why they should watch it.

Productive Task (4-6 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will return to break out groups to discuss the second television and tell other students why they should watch each other's shows.

Open Class Feedback (2-3 minutes) • To allow teacher to check understanding & students to share feedback on task

Teacher will close break out groups and ask students to share what they spoke about.

Feedback and Error Correction (1-2 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teacher will go over any errors in grammar or pronunciation and correct with class.
