Description

This Lexis class will introduce and practice suffixes and related vocabulary for body language

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of suffixes in the context of body language

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice and speaking using a text about body language

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss are asked a question: Are you quick to make a decision, or you take your time and think carefully? Ss are sent to breakoutrooms to freely manipulate the topic for 3 minutes Upon coming back, T asks only one group to state their ideas for now.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

<Ss are shown a Jamboard which includes a pre-analytic stage <T asks the questions before presenting the reading section, nominates 3 Ss to read them and function as embassadors for this activity. <Ss are shown a new slide introducing the TL. briefly T explains what suffixes are. <Ss reflect on the questions and guess their answers. <For 4 mins, Ss read the passage for gist, then check answers in pairs

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

<Ss are then drawn to the vocabulary in the text in capital letters <They are asked if they know whether they are suffixes or preffixes. <Ss then reminisce about the slide we mentioned in the exposure

Clarification (8-13 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

<Ss then are guided through the following 3 slides which explore the MFPA of the TL <Ss along with the teacher clear the first slide showing form . Thjis part is interactive as they need to drag and drop the correct form onto the correct column. <Ss then go to the next slide which lands the meaning and gives context to the suffixes, Ss are called out in class and praised for their answers. <Finally Ss are taken to the last slide which functions as a pronunciation guide <Ss will then be given an introduction to GTM

Free Practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

<Lastly Ss will reflect on the post-activity question: Why some people take body language seriously and some other don’t? <Breakout rooms free practice <Thank the Ss and terminate class with last reflection on slide
