Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask the students can they see my screen. I will play a video on youtube showing emergency services in the UK. I will then show the students a new slide asking the students to discuss in pairs about a time they had to call 911 emergency services. I will then put the students into breakout rooms to discuss this.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will show the students a new slide. It will be a match the words to the correct picture task. I will demonstrate one answer with the students. I will then put the students into breakout rooms to figure out the answers. I will then bring the students for OCFB. I will then show the students a new slide explaining the meaning of the five words the students just matched to the correct word. I will ask the students to match the correct word a list to the correct definition. I will put the students into breakout rooms. I will then bring the students back for OCFB. We will read through the meanings. I will then ask CCQ's. If a person gets a fine is it because they are in trouble? Do you have a lot of time if you have got to do something in a rush? If a person collapses do they have a choice to fall? I will then show a slide of the five words and ask the students to identify the correct form for each word. If the word is a noun/adjective etc. I will then go through the pronunciation of each word individually and chorally with the students.

While-Reading (6-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will give the students two texts to read. I will then ask them two short questions based upon the text. I will demonstrate what is required before asking the students to go into breakout rooms to discuss their answers. I will then bring the students back for OCFB.

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading task

I will then ask the students to read the text again. I will give the students a google form to fill out. I will ask the students if they have received the form. I will then demonstrate what I would like the students to do. I will put the students into breakout rooms to discuss their answers in pairs. I will then bring the students to back for OCFB.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will then show the students a final slide it will ask the students to discuss two questions in pairs. What they would do if they were bitten by a spider? Do people misuse the emergency services in their country? What would they do about it? I will demonstrate with my own personal answers then send them into breakout rooms to discuss their answers.
