I will plan for a grammar class where I will present second conditional: alternatives for "if". The context was set from Face2Face coursebook "Against the law"

  • To provide practice of Second conditional alternatives for; IF in the context of Against the law (Face2Face coursebook)

  • Learners will have also practiced their fluency for writing and speaking in the freer-practice activities.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To engage learners and activate their previous knowledge of topic area

- Teacher displays slide virtual background (VB): Nominate 1 st and ask: Is law practiced in your country, properly? - Instruct and send SS to BR to discuss the questions in Slide 2 (remember to provide own answer) o Is breaking the law justified when there is a valid excuse? Why? o Have you ever done anything “not honest”?

Text-work (3-5 minutes) • To expose students to TL (grammar)

- Teacher displays activity on screen (Slide 3). - Ask Ss to take a chance answering 5a (3 min) o “you have 2 min to complete the sentences on screen, take a screen shot” Notice that the situations are about unreal ideas. o I will answer Nr.1 for you. - Teacher sends students to BoR to compare answers (4 min). - OCFB

Language and clarification. (8-10 minutes) • To cover meaning, form and pronunciation

- Go to Slide 4 and display answers for students, - Cue the students on the answers as you show each one. o Are we talking about real situations or unreal situations? (Unreal) o Are they about the past or present/future? (Present/Future) - Use Slide 4 to show answer after SS’ answers, then go to Slide 4 to start cueing for the sentences. o If someone offered you a job in the USA, would you accept it? /ɪf ˈsʌmwʌn ˈɒfəd juː ə ʤɒb ɪn ðə juː-ɛs-eɪ, wʊd juː əkˈsɛpt ɪt?/ CCQ: Am I working in USA? (no) CCQ: Will I go to work to the USA? (may be) CCQ: Are we speculating? - Instructions: SS now will complete google forms activity (https://forms.gle/aZRhoPLwV2Rb4LRR9) (Slide 6) individually o Demonstrate / Share / send to BoR - Send to BR for SS to discuss answers in Pairs. -OCFB (Have answer ready to make transition faster Slide 7)

Freer Practice | DEC (7-9 minutes) • To use the language fluently

- Show slide Slide 8 “What would you do? - Remember: Demonstrate / Share / send to BoR - Assign groups 3 or 2, depending on how many students are left in the class. - Assign only a situation per group - Tell students they must debate the situation they were given - Tell them to write two or three reflections using the 2nd conditional (if possible) - Send to BoR - Monitor and take notes - T conducts OCFB - After returning from BoR, do DEC

Freer Practice | DEC (6-10 minutes) • To use the language fluently

- Instructions: T shows Slide 9, Ask Ss to share their points of view in BoR o Under which circumstances would you choose to bribe a public official?.. - Monitor and take notes (use OneNote) - T conducts OCFB - After returning from BoR, do DEC
