Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice in speaking in the same context.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To generate students’ interest in the general topic of travelling abroad.

-Give the students some cards, each card includes a name of a country or a city, such as: Dubai/ Turkey/ London/ Maldives/ Indonesia. (I've chosen these countries according to my students' answers about the question: Where would you like to travel? in a previous lesson). -Tell them that I'll start a story and they should close their eyes and imagine. -I'll start the story: It was a really hard period. I was so busy and I worked as hard as I could. I really need to enjoy my holiday and do something different. So, I decided to spend my holiday in a different country. It's my first time to travel abroad. So, I called my friends to ask them about their recommendations. I called the first one and he/she said... (KNOCK ON SOMEONE'S CHAIR AND THIS ONE SHOULD SPEAK ABOUT THE COUNTRY IN HIS CARD). -Continue up the story and while they are speaking I'll show my interest in Turkey using the word (Wow) which they've been taught in a previous lesson.

Context-setting (3-5 minutes) • To generate students’ interest in the topic of holiday destinations.

-Ask the Ss to discuss in a group about the country I'll travel to, by asking them: Which country do you think I'll travel to? -While they're discussing, I'll stick some cards on the wall which include some places I can visit there, such as: natural wonders, historical cities,... etc. -Listen to their answer then say: So, I'll travel to Turkey and there are many places I can visit there I want you to stand up and look at these cards and decide which places are important and which places are not. -Listen to their opinions.
