Description

In this lesson, students learn about different phobias that people have through a guided reading to small texts from a website. The lesson starts with Introducing the Teacher. After the introduction, students will learn new vocabulary. Then, they are going to read the text and have to controlled practices. At the end, students will have freer practice to talk about their phobias to their peers.

Main Aims

  • • To provide scanning and skimming reading practice using a text about phobia in the context of like the phobia of doctors and driving

Subsidiary Aims

  • • To provide practice of lexis about phobia and anxiety in the context of what people fear

Procedure

Teacher Introduction (3-5 minutes) • To introduce the T to the Ss

-T Introduce himself to the Ss -T writes on the Whiteboard 3 sentences 2 of them are correct and 1 is false -T asks Ss to figure out which one is the false -T talks about him self for a minute.

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T starts the lesson by asking the Ss questions about what they fear. -T introduces the context about Phobias and fear -T shows different pictures about phobia and asks students to show what they express -T after finishing the eliciting part, T starts with Lexis part.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T shows the words for the students and elicit them by showing picture and asking CCQ. -T shows the phonological form and how to pronounce the words. -After the lexis, T shows the students 5 texts to the students. -T starts the first exercise for the Ss. -T shows the Ss the 5 texts and the Ss have to find the name of the phobia. (page 72) -T gives the Ss the instructions about what they should do in this exercise. (Page 72 exercise (B)) -For each text, T sends Ss to breakout rooms for 2 minutes only. 5 texts and 5 times to breakout rooms. -T after finishing all the text shows the students the answers.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-T moves on to the second exercise. (Page 72, exercise C) -T shows the 5 texts in one picture and attached to it 5 other text. -T gives the Ss the instructions about what they should do in this exercise. -T sends the Ss to breakout rooms for 5 minutes. -T asks the Ss to give their answers about the exercise. -T checks the Ss answers and corrects any mistake. -T shows the answers to Ss

Post-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-After the end of the controlled practice, T gives the students the context of phobia and fear to talk about it with partners. -T gives the Ss the instructions about what they should do in this exercise. -T send the Ss to breakout rooms. -While Sc are in breakout rooms, T monitor the the Ss -T returns from breakout rooms to give feedback .

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To give students feedback about their answers

-After finishing the freer practice, T ask Ss to give their feedback about what they discussed in the breakout rooms. -If there are any errors, T correct them -If T heard any mistake while observing, T will correct them.
