Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have had a chance to practice speaking for fluency through talking about their online experiences.

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows a slide containing two pictures and ask students to predict the narrative behind the images. This engages the Ss schemata. T asks the Ss to discuss with their partner the following questions: What happened before the picture was taken? Are the pictures related? How will the stories end? Illicit answers from the students.

Pre-Teach Vocabulary / MFP (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T shows a slide of the story text and asks Ss to take a screenshot. T goes over words that may block the Ss from fully comprehending the text, which includes the meaning and pronunciation. One sentence from the text is highlighted and word, sentence stress, and intonation are covered. Pronunciation is drilled with the students.

Gist (5-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask the students to read the story (1of2) alone and afterward, place them in breakout rooms to complete the task of placing story back in the correct order. Students to peer check within the breakout room and answers checked in OCFB.

Detail (9-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

A slide containing both stories are shown to the students and a copy sent via chat. They are instructed to read both stories in detail and complete the task of matching selected verbs within the stories to their corresponding sentences. They are paired up in breakout rooms to peer check their answers. Answers clarified in OCFB.

Post (speaking / writing) (10-10 minutes) • To have students respond to the text and practice producing the covered language.

Place students in breakout rooms in pairs and have them ask their partners the following questions: Can you remember the last website someone recommended to you? Is it good? What do you think is the best age to buy a laptop or smartphone for children? Why? Monitor their progress and provide delayed error correction if needed.
