Main Aims

  • Form sentences using the present continuos tense correctly.
  • To provide clarification and practice of The present continuous tense in the context of using the verbs playing-jumping-eating- watching

Subsidiary Aims

  • Recognize the present continuos tense form from the text.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Through the PPT, T displays a picture of some people , who are doing some different activities. T asks Ss to look at the picture and talk about what people are doing?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T shows Ss a text , describes the actions in the previous picture. -Asks Ss some comprehension questions related to the text and writes down the Ss' answers , corrects their pronunciation of some words.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In groups , Ss highlight the verbs in the text.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T writes down the sentences in the text to highlight (clarify) the present continuous form in the sentences, then asks Ss some questions to check their understanding (CCQs).

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T hands out a worksheet for every learner to choose the correct structure between the brackets. (Individual activity)

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss write down a sentence using the structure (am is/are+ing). T monitors and observes the Ss , while they are doing the activity and can provide help.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T gives each group a picture , shows some people doing activities In groups, Ss will role play a short story forming some sentences, using the present continuous.
