Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Slide 2 "Things you are not allowed to do in a bank, for example rob the vault."

Exposure (7-9 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Slide 3 "Read the text. Did you ever lose or find something valuable? Did you find it/return it? You have 2 minutes" Take Ss to BORs "Discuss with your partner about your experiences. You have 2 minutes" OCFB about one experience per pair 3-5 minutes.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Slide 4 "Highlight the modal verbs on zoom, small tutorial and an example. 2-3 minutes"

Clarification (10-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Slide 5 M will be covered with a GD activity on forms. "Assign each underlined phrase with its meaning. You have 2 minutes, work with your partner." then send them off to BORs. One or two minutes more for FB. Slide 6 Form Slide 7 Expansion on M and P with examples. A is just mentioning to not use contractions for formal settings. Give them the Cheat Sheet of modal verbs.

Controlled Practice (9-11 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Slide 8 "Find the odd one out (the incorrect option) in the blanks." Model the first question, if nobody answers just give it to them. "You have 4 minutes". Pair check in OCFB for 3 minutes. OCFB for 2-3 minutes.

Free Practice (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Slide 9 "You are the co-heads of security at the MNA" If there are any non-Mexican students then just say "Important Museum" "Design a list of at least 2 rules and 2 things they might be allowed to do. E.g: Visitors cannot run with scissors. Visitors may wear hats inside. You have 4 minutes" Send them off in pairs to BORs OCFB for 3 minutes

Delayed Error Correction • To give students personalised feedback on their issues

Final Slide Just keep monitoring them in BORs and correct any mistakes that pop up.
