Main Aims

  • To provide practice in writing an article for a magazine.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice in using the correct expressions to write an article for a magazine.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will present students a presentation using google slides about some pictures related to some popular magazines. Students interact and share opinios regarding the pictures. This could be done by breakout rooms.

Highlighting (2-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will present students a layout for an article. Students identify the parts of the article and the way it is divided. Students identify main parts but not read the whole text. Have students give their own observations.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will have students observe some slides containing important language for them to use. Students go through the exprssions. As a class, students work out meaning and form. Appropiacy will also be presented. Conduct open feedback. Clarify students' questions.

Controlled Practice (8-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

After students analysed the expressions. I will have them outline their own ideas about what they will write.Students brainstorm some ideas for a reference for them when writing their own article.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students write their own piece of writing. Allow students 5 minutes or 8 for the most. Students share their writings in breakout rooms. Conduct Open Feedback.
