Vocabulary and speaking
Procedure (38-51 minutes)
T to play hangman on the board to have students guess what the lesson will be about.
Ask Ss what are the most important changes in a person's life. Get a few ideas. Then give Ss the HO and get them to individually put the ideas in order of importance. Elicit from them that they understand all the ideas. Put Ss in pairs to discuss their ideas and say why they put it in the order they did. Take WC FB.
Tell Ss they will read about a woman's life changes, but first they will learn some new vocabulary. Ss to work in groups of 3. Give them the vocabulary cards and they have to discuss the meaning of the words. As they finish get Ss to write the words they don't know on the WB. Elicit from the WC if anyone understands the words to explain. If nobody knows then T explains.
Show Ss the picture of the woman from p.67. Ask a few questions about her: Where is she? What is she holding? How does she look? Get some ideas but don't confirm or reject anything. Get Ss to look at the words in the previous stage and discuss with their partners what life change they think happened to the woman. Take general FB.
Focus Ss on the reading questions in Ex 1. Tell Ss to read quickly and answer the questions and then check if their ideas were right. Tell them not to worry about the gaps for now. Get them to check their answers in pairs. Then take WC FB and Ss to explain their answers.
Tell Ss to look at the parts of sentences in Ex 2 and work individually to put them into the gaps. Ss to check their answers in pairs. Prepare for Ss to write the answers on the WB. Check to see if all agrees.
Focus Ss on the questions in Ex 3. Check that they know what regret and radical mean. Get Ss into small groups to discuss their ideas. Take some general FB.
