Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To generate students’ interest in the general topic of finding a partner

- Stick photos of some people with some information about them on the board. - Ask each student to pick a photo - Ask each student: Why did you choose this photo? - Discuss the students` answers

Context-setting (3-5 minutes) • To generate students’ interest in the topic of finding a partner online

- Show the students a website which helps people to find a partner online. - Ask the students: Do you know what is this website for? Why do some people use this way to find a partner? - Listen to the students` opinions.

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- Give the students a matching task which includes some words mentioned in the conversation that might block students` understanding. - Demonstrate the first word with the students. - Ask the students to do the task individually. - Ask the students to check their answers in pairs. - Give feedback.

While-Listening #1 (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

- Give each student a card which includes this question: What does Kevin say about..... 1) where he lives? 2) his job? 3) films he likes? - Ask the students to read the question then ask them to flip the card. - Play the audio track (2.17). - Ask the students to flip the card again to answer the question individually. - Ask the students to discuss their answers in groups. - Give feedback. - Give the students the script of the conversation which includes some missing verbs. - Ask the students to listen again and complete the missing verbs. - Play the audio track (2.17) again. - Ask the students to check their answers in pairs. - Give feedback.

While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

- Ask the students to read the highlighted phrases in the conversation. - Play the audio track (2.18). - Ask the students to repeat the highlighted phrases. - Divide the students into A and B. - Ask the students to practice the conversation together (Tell them that they have to show their interest) - Demonstrate with them. - Play the audio track (2.19). - Ask the students: Do you think they want to meet again? - Play the audio track (2.19) again. - Give the students a true or false task and ask them to mark the sentences. - Ask the students to check their answers in pairs. - Give feedback.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Ask the students: Do you think the internet is a good place to make friends or meet a partner? Why (not)? - Give them about 3 minutes to take notes and prepare their ideas. - Listen to the students opinions. - Give feedback (In this stage the feedback will be given on the whole lesson to correct the students` mistakes and thank them for their good use of the language).
