Main Aims

  • To provide fluency, focused on speaking by discussing, evaluating ideas and making suggestions.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation by sharing and discussing ideas in the context of Feng Shui art.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In order to introduce the lesson, I will read the lessons's topic "A Messy Home Means a Messy mind". This first slide will show some pictures of different places, like a messy room, a clean room, an office and a living room, I will ask students 2 questions "Do you think that where we are can affect the way we feel and think?" and "Do you have any special place that makes you feel a particular way?". In this Lead In I want to reduce TTT and give the chance for students to talk "freely" with the open questions.

Content Preparation (6-0 minutes) • To prepare learners with ideas to complete the speaking task.

After the Lead in, and going to the next slide, I will present the concept "Feng Shui" with a brief explanation of the concepts, for example where is it from, what is "Chi" and the main benefits of it; I am doing this slide in order for students to understand the text they will read (on the following slide). Students will read a small text about seven Feng Shui tips for the home, after reading the text they will have some minutes to solve the questions individually, due to the time limit we have (6min) for this time students will not go into breakout rooms. We will check the answers together.

Language Preparation (6-0 minutes) • To introduce some useful language to complete the speaking task and cover MAFP.

After content preparation, we will cover Form by showing the formula "Preposition + article + noun", Pronunciation like Elison in "next to"and Juncture in "in front of" and stress in the words. We will cover Meaning by showing some pictures, I will ask students what is the implemented action or positions (prepositions) of the pictures, creating a guided discovery for the students and with this reducing TTT. Language Preparation will help the students in order to formulate their ideas, discussing and making suggestions for the Speaking Task.

Speaking Task (20-0 minutes) • The purpose is to practice through a task

After being in contact with Language Practice, students will put into practice what they learnt. There will be 2 pictures (kitchen and hallway) students will observe and discuss with a partner "How would they apply Feng Shui to those rooms?" they will have 4min to discuss with their respective partners in breakout rooms, after discussing they will share (as a whole class) how they would apply Feng Shui + my feedback if there's any MAFP mistake; in the next slide there will be 2 other pictures (room and living room) students will do the same "How would they apply Feng Shui to those rooms?" using the new pictures but for this time students will switch partners. After discussing the pictures and sharing their ideas to the class... there will be a third slide, in this slide students will choose from the 4 pictures "which room has the biggest problem and why?" they will go into breakout rooms for the last time and they will have around 3min to discuss, After discussing they will share their ideas as a whole class.

Feedback on Content & Language (6-0 minutes) • To give feedback

After Speaking Task I will conduct to feedback for MFAP in content and language on student's mistakes.
