Description

In this lesson, students learn about the frequency adverbs through a reading text about fast food.

Materials

Abc Face 2 Face Pre-intermediate Student's book, strips for matching

Main Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about the story of Kentucky Fried Chicken in the context of fast food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of past simple tense in the context of fast food

Procedure

Ice-breaking (0-5 minutes) • to give opportunity to both ss and t to remember the names

Including T, invisible ball game will be played. First the one who throws the ball will say his name. In the second part, the one throwing the ball will say the name of the student who will catch the ball.

Warmer / Lead-in (7-7 minutes) • to get students' attention on the topic

T will show logos of three fast food restaurants ( Mc Donald's, Hacıoğlu, Pizza Hut ) and elicit what kind of restaurants they are. Then the questions in the first part of Reading and Grammar ,which help them remember frequency adverbs,will be discussed. Finally, the logo of KFC will be shown.

Pre-reading (8-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text

The ss are supposed to match the years and the explanations written on the strips. While doing it, each of them will be joting their own answers down. It is possible that some of the ss may not know the V2 form of ''sell'', so teacher will give a quick example to make the meaning clear. Additionally, we will have a look at telling the years and numbers which are over one hundred. T will give examples and try to elicit from ss.

Checking the vocabulary (2-2 minutes) • to make sure that students will learn unknown words before reading the text

The pictures of unknown words will be shown. customer - recipe T will refer to a journalist writing in a Turkish newspaper which has an equivalent meaning in Turkish to describe 'spokesman'.

Reading (2-2 minutes) • To help ss discover the meanings of new words in the context

Ss will scan the text carefully

Post-reading activity #1 (5-5 minutes) • To provide ss the correct answers for the activity on WB

After reading the text, ss will check the answers which they give by guessing on the WB before. T will elicit who guess all correctly.

Post - reading activity #2 (5-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to go over the details about the text

Each pair will be given strips about the events in the text to put them in order.

Post - reading activity #3 (10-10 minutes) • To provide ss to talk about the text they have read

Each student in the group will pick a question and answer it. Finally, they will read the questions and answers aloud and the other students out of their group will be checking the answers and correcting them, if necessary.
