Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask students to share their views on learning experiences. What type of learner are they? Ss shall discuss how they learned or how they would like to learn: 1. to swim? 2. to draw? 3. to play the piano? 4. to ride the bike 5. to speak Spanish? Students work in pairs and may write down a short sentence for each. And report back to the class.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Now I would write these phrases on the board and ask students if they agree or disagree. Are those effective ways to learn a skill? This is how I will also give them the top down processing information. learning how swim - throwing you into the deep end learn how to draw faces - being blindfolded / draw with your eyes closed learn how to play the piano - hold an orange in your hand practice makes perfect - keep trying till you learn how to balance the bike learn how to speak Spanish - put pieces of paper around the house In pairs they will discuss if those are good ideas... Then they will report back to the class.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Before playing the recording I will ask the students to listen out if those were the learning techniques mentioned by the speakers and if so, who learned the task and who thought the task?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Now I will ask the students to find me some exact Phrases which are spoken by different speakers. Try to find at least 3 different phrases. I will play the recording for the second time, after the recording I will ask Ss to work in Pairs, Peer check before reporting to the class.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

After we will have compared our answers during feedback, I would ask students to discuss in pairs if they would like to learn any of those new skills the way the speakers described. Why and Why not. At the end they can share their opinion with the class and take away few newly learned phrases such as: Throwing someone in the deep end Practise makes perfect Knowing something by heart
