Description

Provide speaking fluency in the context of talking about the calendar. The students will be given several phrases to be able to refer to while they practice speaking about dates on the calendar. They will be asked several questions so they can give specific months and dates as they speak with their partners.

  • To provide clarification of language usage when referring to the dates of the calender.

Procedure

Lead-In (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be shown 3 pictures and will be asked what the three pictures have in common. Next, they will be asked to guess what they think they are celebrating and will be given 2 minutes to discuss with a partner what they think is being celebrated. After the discussion, they will share their thoughts with the whole class.

Preparation (9-15 minutes) • Prepare students with the language needed and numbers.

First, the teacher will go over a few phrases used when referring to dates on google jamboard. Then the teacher will go over the months and the correct pronunciation, and lastly, the teacher will present the usage of Ordinal numbers when referring to dates of the calendar. The teacher is going to share the link of the google jamboard so that the students can refer to it as they speak if needed. The teacher will give the students the following questions to practice what they just went over. The first question will be when is their birthday and what do they like to do on their birthday. The next question will be is when is your mother's and father's birthday. The students will have 3 minutes to discuss it with a partner and then the partners need to share what the student shared with them in front of the whole class.

Speaking practice (12-17 minutes) • Practice fluency of speaking using dates of the calender.

The teacher will ask the students a series of three questions so that they can discuss with their peers. Students will be given the first question and they will have 3mins to discuss it with their partners and then 2 mins to discuss with the whole class. The second and third questions will have the same procedure with the only difference that they will have to change partners.

Feedback (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with feedback from monitoring of Speaking

The teacher will be going over things they did great and phrases that might need a bit of correction. Pronunciation of certain words will be discussed if necessary.
