Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a online article in the context of solving problems

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide writing practice for accuracy of layout and formulaic language. then practice for fluency and complete a text like the model analyzed.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T: When you face any troubles, how do you solve it? How do you get advice to solve it? Call your mom? Ask Google? Talk with your partner. you have 2 min. T: OCFB

Analyse of layout (5-5 minutes) • To analyze the layout and convention of the model text.

Layout points: 1. using the imperative form in the article. use a google form to provide guided discovery. 2. make sure the order of advice when solving problems. -> two types of activities T: Read the article, and 1. put paragraphs in order to solve the problem. 2. fill out gaps, you choose the appropriate form of verbs. (continue to the language analysis)

Analyze of formulaic Language (conduct the activity with lay out) (5-5 minutes) • To identify common language used in the model text and cover MAF. To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

In the same google forms, Ss categorize phrases into functional groups. 1. give advice to do something 2. give advice not to do something 3. introduce reasons why you shouldn't do something. (after completing layout and language task) T: work in pairs to check the answer. T: OCFB (Check the answers of google forms while they are discussing)

Productive Task(s)-Controlled writing (7-7 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills, accuracy of the layout and formulaic language

1. Prepare some sentences to give advice for changing the light bulbs. 2. Students rewrite the sentences using TLs. 1. It is essential that you turn the power off. ( sure) 2. Wait a few seconds before touching the old bulb. It might be hot. (case, one sentence) 3. Push the new bulb in gently so that it doesn't break, (else) 4. Don't turn the switch on again until you've finished replacing the bulb. (whatever) 5. For safe disposal of the old bulb, wrap it in the packaging from the new bulb. (advisable) AK: 1.Make sure you turn the power off. 2. Wait a few seconds before touching the old bulb in case it's hot. 3. Push the new bulb in gently, or else it might break. 4. Whatever you do, don't turn the switch on again until you've finished replacing the bulb, 5. For safe disposal of the old bulb, It is advisable to wrap it in the packaging from the new bulb.

Productive task 2: freer writing (13-13 minutes) • To provide writing practice for fluency and complete a text like the model analyzed

1. Choose one of the problems or your own idea, write the online article giving the advice to solve the problem. Include the advice on what to do and what not to do to solve it. Use the TLs, giving the advice to do something, giving advice not to do something, and introducing reasons. 2. Showing the complete article from the previous activity. 3. Share the google documents and make sure they can access it and write on it. 4. T monitors and takes notes.

Publishing and Feedback (10-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language, usually peer with the use of checklist

1. Read articles of classmates and evaluate if you can solve the problems. you have 2 min. to evaluate. Advice is in order? Does the article skip any procedures? Does the article tell what to do and what not to do? Does the article tell the reasons why you should do or shouldn't do? Do you think you can solve the problems? Does the article have enough information to solve the problem? 2. Present some comments from Ss. 3. Give feedback on some errors in writing.
