  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of food

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask some questions to students and they have to share their ideas in pairs. The questions are: Do you like to eat junk food? How often do you eat junk food? What is your favorite? After two minutes of discussion T nominates students to share ideas in open class.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will show a picture of a text that only contains some readable words and a couple of blurred pictures. Based on this limited information, Ss have to come up with ideas about the gist of the text. Ss will have 3 minutes to share ideas with partners before checking answers in open class. When students are sharing information in open class, the teacher writes down some of these ideas on the board. This activity ends with 2 extra minutes in wich students have access to the original text and verify their ideas. ICQ: do we have to write?

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T shares a the text. In this thext there are some words in bold - TL verbs and nouns. T asks: are these actions or things?. why?

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

FORM. Students have to sort a set of words formed by different verbs and its nouns. Procedure: T shares the link and asks Ss to answer this activity in pairs, students have three minutes to classify all the words. After this time T checks answers in open class and we take some minutes to analyze, can we identify a pattern? Teacher mentions root and suffixes -ion, -sion, or -ation. MEANING. In this section students will work the meaning of four words considering the context – fill in the blanks. The words are: opt, educate, inform and success. Procedure: T shares the link and asks Ss to answer this activity individually, students have two minutes. After individual work, Ss have two more minutes to compare their answers with partners. At the end of this activity, T nominates different students to share answers in open class. ICQ. This is individually or in pairs? Can we repeat answers? PRONUNCIATION. Students work with word stress listening and repeating words. Procedure: T says: listen to these words, where is the stress? What is the strong syllable? As Ss are answering, T marks the stress in each word.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Controlled drill. Ss have to complete sentences with choosing from a set of verbs and nouns. Procedure: T shares the link and asks Ss to answer this activity in pairs, students have four minutes. At the end of this activity, T nominates different students to share answers in open class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

S have 5 minutes to discuss these questions: Have you changed your decision when you are buying food? Do you think this new labels are a good idea? Have you found any surprise? At the end of this activity, T nominates different students to share experiences in open class.
