Mike Drozdowski TP 3 Lesson Outline- Grammar- Sept. 22 2020
Pre-Intermediate level

Description

Students will be exposed to and learn the uses of "used to and didn't use to". There will be much practice involved to make sure the students understand when and how to properly use the forms. This will especially take place in the communicative task at the end where students produce the language in context of remembering their days in school.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of used to and didn't use to in the context of talking about the past

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice with the target language in context of people recalling their school days

Procedure

Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Use Whiteboard or breakout rooms for students to share briefly "What do you remember about school?" Give a general example and a personal example: your friends or for me 9th grade history

Gist Task (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students will have a Google Form link to work on the gist task while they are listening. Students will listen to the audio which the teacher shares. They will then compare answers in the chat box and afterwards check them in OCFB

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Via the same Google form, students will individually do guided discovery work. Afterwards OCFB will take place and during OCFB things will be clarified. Even after this, some more clarification, questions and drilling practice will happen.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept and form check to prepare students for more meaningful practice

In breakout room pairs, students will work on the CP task in the Google form. OCFB and then any clarification which is necessary before we proceed to the FP

Free Practice (8-11 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In groups, students will interview each other with the prompts they have in the Google form. The FP elaborates upon the Lead-in as well as the Gist task just in a more detailed, personalized manner using the TL

DEC/Feedback (1-3 minutes) • To give feedback on things monitored during the lesson

Give praise Provide appropriate correction (especially that noticed during FP)
