Description

In this lesson Ss will have listening practice sor gist and specific information in the context of a nenwspaper article.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of fake news

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T, shows a visual with famous pictures and asks: What are these? do you know them? what so you know about them? Instructions: In pairs in a Room in Zoom, look at the pictures and share with your partners the information you know aboout these photos. Use a "sticky note" on the picture to write that info. T. shares the link for the Task 1 and organizes Ss in Rooms.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pre-Listening language. T. presents vocabulary with meaning form and pronunciation. -Demonstration /ˌdem.ənˈstreɪ.ʃən/. Synonym-protest. Informal, an occasion when a group of people march or stand together to show that they disagree with or support something. -To carry /ˈker.i/ . To hold something with your hands od on your back and transport it. -Flag, Vietnamese flag /flæɡ/ /ˌvjet.nəˈmiːz/ Showing a picture T says this is a flag. - Cover /ˈkʌv.ɚ/. The outside part of a book or magazine, usually made of thick paper. At the end of the presentation there is a vocabulary activity. Instructions: In a Zoom room you are going to fill in the blanks in the sentences of the right with the words on left. You have 2 min. T. shares the link of the activity -Task 2. After 2 minutes we check the answers in open class.

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with a less challenging gist task.

Instructions. - Look at the picture and try to guess, where do you think they are? what do you think is happening? Share your ideas with your partner. You have 3 minutes. T. shares the link with the picture -Task 3. And organizes Ss. in Rooms. After 3 min T. nominates different Ss. to share ideas in open class. T. write some of these ideas on the board. T. plays de audio to verify Ss answers. Instruction. Let´s listen the next interview. Take notes if needed. Whet is the interview about? At the end of the listening T. asks, did you guess? is this situation similar to the ideas you shared? T. Writes ideas on the board.

While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with a more challenging detailed istening task.

Instructions. Let´s listen to the interview one more time and let´s try to identify the right option. T. shares the link with the activity – Task 4. After the listening T. says “Let´s share ideas” and organizes Ss. in Rooms. You have 3 min. After the time in the Rooms, T. nominates Ss to say the right answers. T. writes the answers on the board.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Let´s discuss. T. asks "do you think this is a common situation? Can we find examples like this in our newspapers and magazines". Instructions. Let´s share our opinion. You have 5 min to have a nice conversation. I´ll be checking the Rooms in case you have problems with vocabulary. T. shares the link with the activity – Task 5. And organizes Ss. in Rooms. You have 3 min. After the time in the Room T. nominates Ss to share information.
