To introduce and practice lexis in the context of urban legends. Students will learn different phrasal verbs in a context of completing sentences and dialogue, they will understand the meaning through vocabulary and respective matching exercises.

Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice phrasal verbs in the context of urban legends

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of vocabulary in the social context. To practice pronunciation.


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will start showing Students 4 different pictures. Each picture is related to a famous Urban legend. One for the bodies inside the Opera House in Sydney, one for the Chupacabras, one for La Llorona, and one The Loch Ness Monster, this will be in the screen with the question "Do you believe in Urban legends?" S will work on answering this question in pairs for 5'. (G. Slides)

Text-work : Task 1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice phrasal verbs vocabulary and sentences.

The T will ask "what is a phrasal verb?", then will ask to 1-2 S for answers. T will show the meaning of what a PV is and the slide with the example of "Look + ". T will ask the S to give examples while showing slide "Look". T will show an slide with a short text from SB's page 32, the text name is "It must be true, I read it on the internet..." phrasal verbs in the text are highlighted and underlined. T will ask one S to read it out loud. T introduces Task 1: Complete the sentence in Google Forms. T explains to the class how the activity is and T does with the class letter A as an example. T asks them to work in pairs again and reply to each other via private message. T check the answers in an OCF. Answer Key of activity : A2, B2, C1, D3, E3. Estimated time of activity 10 minutes.

Language Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

T will start the activity with Task 2 in Google Forms. S will be provided with the meaning and they need to find the right Phrasal verb for it. Number 1 we will do it together as an example. Activity will be individual. T checks answers with S and gives open class feedback. T shows in G. Slides Form of Phrasal verbs, T shows them examples. T asks the S to write all of them 1 Phrasal verb in the chat room. T will write 3-4 of them in Jamboard. To cover pronunciation T will display second page on Jamboard where there are 4 phrasal verbs with examples written in phonetic transcription. T will ask the S to choose one and repeat it all together.

Controlled Practice (5-5 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

T shows S in Google Slides Task 3. T explains instructions. S have to fill in the gaps with the mentioned Phrasal verbs. T gives S 3 minutes to work in pairs via private messages. But first T does with them number 1 to show clarity in the task's instructions. T checks answers with OCFB. Estimated time for Activity 5 minutes.

Freer Practice (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to practice what they learnt in the TL

T presents Task 4 in Jamboard. T divide S in 4 groups in breakout rooms. Each group has to create a sentence using a phrasal verb. Jamboard shows the forms with verbs, adverbs or prepositions. Each group has to write their sentence in the Group chat. T checks answers and we do OCFB. We use a blank Jamboard to write the sentences and check their understanding. DEC.
