Description

In this lesson, students will be presented with connecting words for reason and contrast in the context of a selected text on the topic of April Fool's Day. Students will be presented to the lexis through guided discovery exercises dealing with meaning and an explanation of form, and then pronunciation through drilling. They will encounter the lexis in the reading selection and reinforce their acquisition through controlled and freer practice. Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greet Assign BOG Show the image of the ticket of "The Washing of the Lions" and ask Ss to interpret "What is it?" "What is the publisher trying to do?" Time limit 2 minutes OCFB--notate answers 2 minutes

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Show text Instruct Ss to read for GU Time limit 2 minutes Send form April Fools 1 time limit 2 minutes Review 2 minutes

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: GD exercise on slide Send Google form 2 for TL Time limit 2 minutes Students check in pairs 2 minutes OCFB Review TLFP with slides

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Freer Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with freer practice of the target language
