In this lesson, the student will learn about ways to introduce themselves in English including basic information such as name, origin, occupation, and languages spoken/ abilities.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of introducing oneself.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of words for introducing a person in the context of introducing oneself.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Welcome student. Introduce myself. Ask student how was her week and what she hopes to achieve from the lessons. Set basic rules.

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks.

Talk about myself in order to provide a model. - My name is..... - I am from (country). - I study/ work at ....... - I am a (occupation). - I can speak (languages). I am also good at (abilities).

Useful Language (3-4 minutes) • To highlight useful language for coming productive tasks.

Show G. Slides of sentences used to introduce oneself, plus some possible suggestions for filling in the gaps. Send link to student. Ask student to open link on computer.

Productive Task (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice speaking skills

Ask student to introduce themselves using the sentences.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Highlight sentence stress and pronunciation. Correct errors.

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • To enable student to talk freely

Ask student to talk freely about themselves (perhaps likes, dislikes, favorite shows).

Close (2-3 minutes) • To thank student and close the session

Send audio link of target sentences from the lesson via Google Hangout. Ask student to practice at home. Provide topic for next lesson. Thank student and confirm time for next lesson.
