Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about restaurant adverts in the context of going out

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a restaurant adverts in the context of going out

Procedure

Lead in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss different pictures of place you can visit when you go out with friends or family. Ask them to say where are the people and what can they do there.

Pre-teaching vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

To provide list of new vocabularies. gives the ss time 3 minutes to search the words in the dictionaries individually. to share their answers with their classmates in the breakout rooms for 3 minutes. bring the ss to main session and displays the answers.

Reading for gist (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information in reading task.

Ss to read the task individually. Ss to spend 5 minutes to do the task individually for 4 minutes. Ss to work in pair to check their answers for 4 minutes Teacher to display the answers on the main session.

While-Reading (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading task

Ss to read the task. Ss to work individually to read the adverts again and to answer the task individually for 8 minutes. Ss to share their answers with their partners for 5 minutes. Teacher to display the answers on the shared screen.

Post-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned.

Ss to read the task. Ss to work individually to answer the task for 2 minutes. Ss to check their answers with their partners for 2 minutes. Teacher to display the answers.

Follow up practice (3-5 minutes) • To give ss a chance to check comprehension, review important information and extend their reading activity.
