Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice lexis in the context of adventure travel.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of travel in the context of travel
  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about things to do in the context of travel

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Work in pairs, and tell your partner where in the world you would like to travel to someday. Have Ss share answers with class.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

While students are listening to Audio 2.1, have them complete the Fill in the Blank Google Form. After they've completed it, have them compare answers in the chat. Then conduct OCFB.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the collocations.

Have the students each work on a slide to match the correct definitions to the bolded vocabulary words in each sentence. Amongst themselves, check their answers with each other. Go over answers together. Work through the form and pronunciation of each word.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Share the control practice Google Form with the students. They will have to complete the sentence with the correct word. Students will check their answers in pairs in the chat. Conduct OCFB.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In breakout rooms, students will answer 3 discussion questions with their partners, then share what their partners talked about. 1. Can you think of a place that really appeals to you, and one that really doesn’t? Why and why not? 2. Do you prefer luxury travel or roughing it when you travel? Why? 3. What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done?
