Main Aims

  • To provide a template for writing a Complaint Letter eliciting Layout and Language culminating in students writing their own Complaint Letter

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading of a letter. In this case a Complaint Letter.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Think of examples of who you might write a complaint letter to, what would you include in the letter Send to break out room for two minute Bring back and conduct open class feedback

Exposure Gist (2-3 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Read letter and answer question on google form Only OCFB

Exposure Layout (3-5 minutes) • Provide exposure for students to understand layout

Students read text again and answer question on google jamboard

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks.

Set students tasks via google forms to help with meaning, form and appropriacy

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • Students practice filling in gaps

Students fill in google forms with words from the text

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students write their own Complaint Letter Elicit topics for complaint letters. Students check one another letters using a checklist

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Highlight good use of language in students letter
