Listening lesson- Why do we dream?

Description

In this lesson, the ss will do many listening tasks.Firstly, they will discuss a few questions that are related the main theme of the " Why do we dream?".Next, the ss have to match some new vocabulary with their meanings.After that, the learners have a listening for gist , listening for specific and detailed information respectively and work in pairs to check their answers then they will listen again to check their answers with their T.Finally, the ss have do the freer practice which mainly deal the main idea of the whole lesson.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about Why do we dream? in the context of dreams and their relationship with achievement.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of dreams and their relationship with achievement.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

creating a context by asking the ss many questions which are related to main point " the relationship between the dreams and achievement.The ss will be asked these questions to answer them in groups .After that , they T is doing to ask them about their classmates’ opinions to get feedback at the end of the day.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

presenting pre-teaching vocabulary task , where they can do matching vocabulary with their meanings individually,then they check them in pairs to activate the peer teaching .Finally, the T give appropriate feedback.

While Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

presenting a short task which involves match famous characters with their achievements and the role of dreams. The ss do it by themselves individually. Then,they check their answers in pairs to do it again with the T and get a suitable feedback.

While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

presenting a long exercise which deals mainly with answering the questions that depend on comprehend the questions thoroughly and looking for details. Again the follow the same procedure in the previous question.Do it themselves at first, then in pairs to end up with feedback from the T.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

setting up a discussion which focuses on creating a conversation which depends on the general theme of the lesson .So, this task will give them an ample opportunity to practice the target language in the same context.
